How to Protect Yourself
Allow yourself extra travel time so you're less tempted to speed, run stop signs or make risky decisions.
Maintain at least a three-second following distance, increasing it during rain, snow, or heavy traffic.
If another driver is behaving aggressively, don't engage. Avoid eye contact, gestures, or trying to "teach them a lesson."
If it's safe, move over and allow the driver to continue. It's better to lose a few seconds than become involved in a dangerous confrontation.
Avoid distractions like texting, eating, or adjusting your GPS while driving. Defensive driving starts with paying attention.
If an Accident Happens
Move to a safe location if possible.
Turn on your hazard lights.
Check for injuries and call 911 if needed.
